Indian foods and thyroid: what to eat, limit and avoid
In hypothyroidism, food matters in two specific ways rather than one general one. First, goitrogens — compounds in cruciferous vegetables, soy and some millets — can interfere with thyroid hormone production when eaten in large amounts, though cooking deactivates most of them. Second, and more practically important, several foods and supplements block absorption of levothyroxine if taken close to your tablet. The timing of what you eat often matters more than the food itself.

This is general dietary information, not medical advice. Never change your levothyroxine dose or timing based on a web page — including this one. Note that calcium and iron supplements, and dairy, reduce levothyroxine absorption and are usually kept four hours away from the tablet. Discuss any dietary change with the doctor managing your thyroid, particularly if you are pregnant, when thyroid requirements change.
